A/Prof Kim Devery
Associate Professor Kim Devery works in the field of end-of-life and palliative care. In her teaching Kim guides doctors, nurses and allied health professionals in post graduate studies, ultimately to strengthen their capacity in delivering health care services to patients who are at the end of life. Kim strives to uphold the importance of critical thinking and evidence-based practice in all her teaching. Kim also leads a major national education and knowledge translation project End of Life Essentials funded by the Commonwealth Government since 2015 that's free and evidence based, which aims to increase professionals' skill and confidence in end-of-life care in Australian acute hospitals.
Kim has worked as a nurse in Africa, United States of America, United Kingdom and Australia across a wide variety of clinical practice settings including palliative care. Working in cultures so very different to her own helped Kim to see the similarities and the differences of ill health and suffering across the world. Also these professional experiences highlighted, in stark reality, the impact of political systems and culture on health care, the roles of health professionals and how sick people are provided for.
